This has been a great year in the garden we have truly had an abundance of veggies come out of the garden however, we still are not producing enough veggies to be self sufficient. Although I have enough tomatoes and potatoes to last us quite a while and we have at least 20 more pounds to pick off the vine. I am waiting on the okra & cream peas which should make a big dent in the veggies we need for the year.
I have planted a full box of Swiss Chard if you do not grow Swiss Chard you really should. You can grow it all year round, you can use it anywhere you would use Spinach. After you cut off leaves more leaves grow and this continues for months. This is the perfect veggie to receive abundance from a small garden.
So here are the veggies we are eating: Green beans (another disappointing season), zucchini, Swiss chard.
Other Veggies we are waiting for: butternut squash, cucumbers, bell peppers, jalapenos, banana peppers, habeneros, cantaloupe, yellow crook neck squash, patti pan squash, watermelon & pumpkins.
Hopefully, we will soon have a completely (mostly) organic veggie supply. I want to encourage you to start growing a little something. 4 years ago I had never had a garden and now we are processing nearly 75#'s of tomatoes, over 40#'s of potatoes etc.... So anyone can do it, start small and dream big!
