My Asa

I have been reading 2 Chronicles lately and I remember before I began reading this chapter I was filled with anxiety because its one of the history type books. Because I knew it had like a billion names I could not pronounce and thought it was going to have very little spiritual bang! Well, there were a lot of names I could not pronounce but I yet again found out God knows what he's doing and Kyle should just read and obey! I am stiff necked sometimes even though I know God's word does not return void......Anyways, it is rich with characters and as I now sadly leave 2 Chronicles I am struck by the last king Eliakim whose name was changed by Nebuchaadnezzar (now he needs a name change) and he put him into power. The thing that hit me this time was how he did evil in the sight of God and how all of kids did evil in the sight of God. Even little Jehoiahcin "did evil in the sight of the Lord". The boy is eight and already evil (what a contrast to Timothy!). Then Nebuch.... puts his kinsman (a relative) in power and he is evil. God even "sent word again and again"...but no change so finally the Chaldeans came over and slew everyone! This theme of 'monkey see monkey do' ran through out 2 Chronicles. For the most part Good kings breed good kings and Bad Kings breed bad kings. Periodically, a bad king would have a son who was a good king and he would break the mold! What a blessing to see God's plans in work in these big kingdoms and to know we can break the mold of generational sin by obeying his word. Oh to be like Josiah and to hear the words of the Lord read from the lost tablet and to become radically altered! To just change from a good king to a Godly ...God fearing Man. Its so cool to see that Wayne and I can break the trend of generational sin (multiple divorces, babies out of wed lock, alcohol, drugs, jail I could go on but really...). So, praise God our kids do not have to deal with that junk like little Wayne and Kyle did! We even have a chance of making a Timothy (maybe more like a Timona...) by the grace of the living God!
So I just wanted to thank God for His book...His radical wonderful historical book!

When I recently read the Chronicles, I was totally overwhelmed by king after king who disobeyed God. They saw God take kingdoms, battles, health and even life away from other kings who did not fear Him, yet they still disobeyed. Surely they saw their sin. Did they just love it? Kings...this blew me away too.

I tell God everyday, let me learn. I don't want to repeat it. I want God to show it to me so I'll turn from sin. I pray desperately for my children to see sin, hate sin and turn from sin...may I be their strongest example. Yes, praise God that we can bring generational sin into the light and be free from it. Praise God that we can leave our children a legacy of freedom, love and prayer.

I love Chronicles. I love God's Word.

"But suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father commits, and though he sees them, he does not do such things:
"He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor's wife.
He does not oppress anyone or require a pledge for a loan. He does not commit robbery but gives his food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked.
He withholds his hand from sin and takes no usury or excessive interest. He keeps my laws and follows my decrees. He will not die for his father's sin; he will surely live. But his father will die for his own sin, because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother and did what was wrong among his people.
Ezekiel 18:14-18

Kyle, I love the Chronicles, also read all of Ezekiel 18. It is my prayer for my children, that they will not have to pay for the sins of their father because they will look to the Lord and obey His commands. Good stuff. T
hanks for sharing.
Break generational sin in Jesus Name!!!!
