Summer Sun
by Robert Louis Stevenson
GREAT is the sun, and wide he goes
Through empty heaven without repose;
And in the blue and glowing days
More thick than rain he showers his rays.
Though closer still the blinds we pull
To keep the shady parlour cool,
Yet he will find a chink or two
To slip his golden fingers through.
The dusty attic, spider-clad,
He, through the keyhole, maketh glad;
And through the broken edge of tiles
Into the laddered hay-loft smiles.
Meantime his golden face around
He bares to all the garden ground,
And sheds a warm and glittering look
Among the ivy's inmost nook.
Above the hills, along the blue,
Round the bright air with footing true,
To please the child, to paint the rose,
The gardener of the World, he goes.
Psalm 74:17
It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.
It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.
Now a quick aside.....
Normally, when I go to Biblegateway it's just to avoid having to type the verse and possibly making a mistake. But today I was wondering what does the Bible say about summer? I knew about the ant verse & some of the seasonal verses but who knew there are 19 verses that discuss summer.
But the way this is my favorite verse from the list: Proverbs 10:5 He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
because I think of my kids as the crop the verse reminds me that we have a limited amount of time to pour scripture & love into their lives so I better not be sleeping on the job! I do not want to be a disgraceful daughter! Plus, before I know it they will be off making their way in the world and I want it to be with the Lord.
Happy Summer!
