Just a regular old Birthday Party

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden." Matthew 5:14

Our parties have really changed over the years as we have sought to take the focus off of the 'party' and to put the focus on the creator. We really want everything we do to be light to the watching world. Our parties will probably keep on changing each year as we are able to provide a greater reflection.

We normally have joint birthday party for Parker and Pearson who have less than a month in between their birthdays. This year we held the shin-dig at the Brieger pool.  The kids had a great time. Instead of spending hours (which I love to do but frankly I currently do have the time) decorating a cake I made a very simple layered ice cream cake which was a big hit.

Brickers, Benavides, McVays & Hillands O My!
A couple of years ago we started inviting families instead of kids and using this as another opportunity to fellowship with folks we are already in community with. I no longer worry about a theme which eliminates a myriad of stressful issues. I've left the birthday party rat race! The party is simple and it's meant to tell the birthday girl(s) that we all love them and that our love heavenly Father loves them even more.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

The birthday girls 5 & 7

This years' party was even more rushed since the twins came the 29th the day after Parker's birthday I really did not come up for air until around the 7th and the party was on the 14th! I am so grateful to the Lord that I had already told many of these families that we were have a birthday party on this day and they saved the date.

Parks & Aliah
We really enjoyed the sweet fellowship we had and that we witnessed between the children as they shared the gifts the kiddos had picked out for our sweet little ones. This note pad is tucked into Parker's Bible and has become her official church notebook because she so loves her sweet friend Aliah.
